Passan given the Thumbs Up!

Thumbsup, one of the UK’s largest suppliers of garden, house ware and domestic storage merchandise, has chosen a Passan access control system to monitor and control the movement of staff and visitors throughout their manufacturing facility.

Established in 1980, Thumbsup rapidly gained a reputation for being one of the most innovative companies in its field. The company’s success is based on an integrated approach to business with manufacturing, packaging, sales and delivery all being carried out in-house at the Bury site where over 300 people are employed.

Rosendale based William Dyer Electrical were commissioned to install the Passan Access Control system, manufactured by FDI, after successfully installing a fire system. Bill Dyer explains: “Although the client wanted to improve security, of equal importance were health & safety issues. Thumbsup wanted to ensure all their staff could work in a safe environment, where visitors could not stray unescorted into manufacturing areas of the site and, in the event of an emergency that all people on site could be accounted for.”

William Dyer Electrical installed fifty Passan access control readers allowing Thumbsup to monitor where all their employees are at any one time, whilst the access control cards issued to visitors, restrict their movements to the reception and showroom areas.

“We have used Passan before on other sites, so we knew it was competitively priced but the main point that was so important for Thumbsup was the system’s flexibility to work in conjunction with the fire alarm system,“ added Bill Dyer. “In addition to the fifty readers controlling access, we also installed an additional reader at a Muster point outside the building. In the event that there is ever an incident, Thumbsup will instantly be able to know who is still in the building.”
