How to Install

The cable to be used for the basic network installation is either:
• CAT5e STP
• (Belden 1633E PVC jacket)
• (Belden 1633EVNH low smoke non-halogen jacket)
Total cable length between controllers is 1000m.
The cable to used from the controller to the reader is:
• CAT5e
• (Belden 1633E PVC jacket)
• (Belden 1633EVNH low smoke non-halogen jacket) plus and a larger flex for the lock supply.
Maximum distance between controller and reader is 100m
It is possible to load tokens using either Reader 1 on Controller 1 or using the optional desktop management reader.
Controller 1 connects to the PC using a 10m serial cable. If the PC does not have a serial port it will be necessary to use a SERIAL-USB convertor cable (connection kit is available).
The desktop management reader also connects to the PC using a serial cable (supplied). A second serial port is required. If the PC does not have a second serial port it will be necessary to use a SERIAL-USB convertor cable.

The controller can also be set to commissioning mode, in this temporary mode the controller will automatically recognise any FDI tokens with no additional set up or programming.
This mode has to be de-selected for full operation.
A removable dongle ensures security of the network controllers.
The PC can only be connected to the network controller which has the yellow dongle fitted.
The controllers plug-in flash memory module stores the database and firmware on the flash memory, flash memory is updated by the PC software creating a backup, it's possible to restore PC data from the flash memory.
